The Lambton Shrine Motor Corps has had to pull out of Sarnia’s Labour Day Parade and other parades planned for the fall in the area. The reason: a little insurance problem with their tiny cars.
The Lambton Shriners has been attending parades in the area until recently, but they’ve had to stop due to a coverage problem, Jason McMichael, president of the Sarnia and District Labour Council, told the Observer.
“They’ve had a little issue with their insurance, so they’re not doing any parades right now, regrettably, because that’s something everyone always looks forward to,” McMichael said.
The Shriners, however, are playing the reason for the stoppage close to the vest.
“At this point in time, we’re on hold until we have an opportunity to investigate and see what’s going on,” Gord Simmons, president of the Lambton Shrine Club, told the Observer. “We decided we better just cancel everything until the end of the year. It’s an issue we need to deal with and, at the present time, we’re playing it safe.”
Members of the Lambton Shrine Club Motor Corps traditionally drive their small cars in about 20 parades a year in Ontario and Michigan, according to the Observer. Donations the club receives from parade organizers go to children’s programs like the Shrine hospital in Montreal.
