Winter tires suggestion doesn’t gain traction with brokers

The week’s Comment of the Week is actually two comments on an article suggesting brokers could reach their 15 per cent premium target reduction by urging clients to take advantage of the winter tire discount.

The comment comes from Fred Edwards, who pointed out that too much already has been downloaded onto brokers, in Can winter tires achieve the 15 per cent goal?

“I think it is time to stop downloading everything on the brokers. First the change in A/B coverage (and we are still paying for that). Now you want us to argue about tires with clients....no I don't think so.

“Just make it law and let everyone conform; we have enough on our plate thanks to the last inept actions of the Provincial Government. Not a day goes by where someone does not ask me when they are getting a refund or reduction and then you follow it up with a too-long explanation.

“Enough! Let the politicians take responsibility for their promises!”

Sherry agreed with Edwards’ comments, but pointed out that the onus of education in personal lines also seems to fall on brokers’ shoulders:

“I would have to agree with Fred. It seems everyone wants to put the onus of education back to brokers and insurance companies, and not just with auto insurance but with personal lines as well. Let's put this back to the government and municipalities to deal with issues that seem to be mostly their responsibility.”
