Canada Life Group Insurance has announced a number of changes to its senior management team.
The changes, which affect its group protection leadership, include the appointment of a managing director from within the company.
Tim Stoves will officially take up the role of managing director, having previously served as interim managing director for one year, and acted as scheme underwriting manager prior to that.
Stoves said that his predecessor, the former managing director Ian McMullan who passed away in July, “did incredible work to bring the organisation to the market-leading position it currently enjoys, ranking number one on all measurable market indices.”
He went on to say: “With these strong foundations in place, and the continuity provided by an excellent and experienced management team, I am confident we can build on Ian’s legacy while retaining our leading position.”
Other senior management team changes announced include the appointment of Andy Tarzey as operations director of group insurance, and Helen Abiona as head of pricing, group insurance.
Tarzey, who was previously head of operations, was appointed to his new role in recognition of his achievements during a “challenging year” during which Canada Life Group maintained its ranking as the number-one service provider by advisers for the eighth year in a row, the company said.
Abiona was appointed to her new position having previously served as senior pricing actuary.
Doug Brown, UK CEO of Canada Life Group Insurance, said the insurer has a “strong and experienced workforce led by an aligned and focused senior leadership team.”
He said: “Despite a challenging market, we have cemented ourselves as market leaders, and are now in a great position to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead, and with Tim at the helm we hope to build on the very strong foundations and strategies for growth that Ian McMullan built for us.”
