Great-West Life appoints president for Quebec Affairs, subsidiaries

The new position will see the president interact with provincial policymakers and regulators

Great-West Life (GWL) has announced the appointment of senior executive Monique Maynard, FSA, FCIA as president, Quebec Affairs. She will also serve as president for GWL’s subsidiaries, London Life and Canada Life.

Maynard will report to the president and chief operating officer, Canada, following her appointment, effective immediately. She will be responsible for all interactions with and represent the interests of the company and its subsidiaries at CLHIA-Quebec (ACCAP), a release said.

The newly-created role of president of Quebec Affairs will allow Maynard to serve as an industry advocate with provincial policymakers and regulators in relation to issues involving the insurance and financial industries.

“As President, Quebec Affairs, Monique will provide strategic direction on all issues and initiatives that affect our customers in Quebec,” said GWL Canada President and COO Stefan Kristjanson. “Monique will also represent our companies in the community, the industry and with the government.”

On top of her duties as president of Quebec Affairs, Maynard will also assume the role of chief actuary for GWL’s companies in Canada. The current chief actuary for the region retires mid-2017, a release said.

Maynard has built a career within GWL that spans three decades. She has held various senior roles in product and business development, pricing, claims, underwriting, new business administration and client service for the individual lines of business for GWL, London Life and Canada Life. Maynard is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
