Manulife announced last Friday it has partnered with a diagnostics company to provide complimentary physical fitness checkups under its new health program.

Vitality is Manulife’s incentive-based health and well-being program. Members of the program earn “Vitality Points” by accomplishing health and fitness goals - such as taking a flu shot, exercising, or undergoing health checkups (called “Vitality Checks”). The points go toward a member’s “Vitality Status”, and the higher a member’s status, the more rewards that member is entitled so. Rewards include discounts on GoodLife Fitness/Énergie Cardio memberships and discounts on Manulife life insurance premiums.

The diagnostics company, ExamOne, has agreed to perform Vitality Checks for Manulife’s Vitality program members, free of charge. Vitality members are free to select any location to undergo their ExamOne-facilitated Vitality Checks at no cost. Alternatively, members can select another accredited medical practitioner or doctor to perform the checkups, although costs will apply.

“Vitality Check provides an additional level of insight into one’s overall health,” Vitality program head Blake Hill said. “Not all provincial health care systems cover the requirements and cost of a health review equivalent to Vitality Check so we have joined with ExamOne to provide it free of charge to Manulife Vitality members.”

A Vitality Check involves the collection and reporting of members’ blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and body mass index. The checkup also provides members with personal health information that they can use to understand their current health situation, allowing them to make informed healthcare decisions.

Members whose checkups reveal that their biometric measures are within healthy ranges could be rewarded with additional Vitality Points.

Those members interested in undergoing a Vitality Check with ExamOne can log into the Manulife Vitality secure member website. From there, members can connect with a local paramedical professional with ExamOne. A representative will then arrange for the checkup in a location of the member’s choice—their home or workplace, for instance. Results of the checkups are only provided to the member and The Vitality Group Inc., who administrates the health program.
