According to a release, the new distribution partnership expands The Edge Benefits’ reach to more than 75,000 advisors. The agency looks forward to working closely with these new advisors, especially considering “the growing number of contract workers, small business owners and self-employed individuals who are generally not eligible for a traditional employee benefits plan.”

The Edge Benefits is an agency specializing in living benefits based in Newmarket, Ontario. The Co-operators acquired a majority interest in the agency in May, 2015. Prior to the acquisition, The Edge Benefits had been in a partnership with The Co-operators from 2013.

Currently, The Edge Benefits has 80 employees and over 45,000 policyholders. In the last 10 years, the agency has paid out more than $100 million in benefit claims.
