In a ceremony held November 15, Gore Mutual Insurance Company was presented with an Excellence in Governance Award by the Governance Professionals of Canada.

Gore Mutual chief compliance officer and vice president, corporate affairs Sonya Stark accepted the reward; she is responsible for corporate governance at the company.

The award category of best engagement by a governance team is judged by the Governance Professionals of Canada based on the nominees’ overall communication and engagement with their constituencies, such as investors, employees, suppliers, regulators, communities, donors or customers.

“In its community, Gore Mutual Insurance Company clearly engages with stakeholders before key governance or strategic changes are made,” the judges commented during the event, as they handed the award to Gore Mutual. “The organization presented concrete examples that demonstrated tangible results that added value to the company. Judges were impressed with the extent to which stakeholder engagement and governance are interconnected and aligned.”

“We are extremely proud of Sonya and our company as a whole,” said Gore Mutual president and CEO Heidi Sevcik. “The award is a testament to what our stakeholders already know: that integrity and service excellence are of the utmost importance to our organization. As a mutual company that puts people first, this is strongly aligned with our core values.”
