David Gambrill: Brokers are getting with the times, connecting with Generation Y through the use of social media. I am David Gambrill, welcome to Insurance Business TV.
Broker clients are typically over 41 years of age and so brokers are trying to reach out to the younger generation through the use of social media. Judy Bell, what is your brokerage doing with social media?
Judy Bell, Beyond Insurance Brokers Inc.
Judy Bell: Yes, so our brokerage does use social media quite a bit, Linkedin, Twitter and facebook are the ones that we primarily use. Facebook more so to drive people to our website. The benefits that we find from using them, one of the main ones is the cost efficiencies in marketing our brokerage. The other main benefit we have is dealing with clients how they want to be dealt with, speaking to them on that platform of social media.
David Gambrill: Many brokerages are reluctant to use social media, because they don’t know the business case for it or some just don’t know how to use it to their advantage. With me is Ryan Mitchell of Mitchell Sandham. Ryan if I am broker and I want to use social media, what are the dos and don’ts?
Ryan Mitchell, Mitchell Sandham
Ryan Mitchell: The dos and don’ts for brokerages entering social media game, the do would be make sure to be persistent, spend the time and energy towards social media, it is a long term process in order to get the desired results. The don’t would be to not just provide announcements, make sure that you are engaging your clients, be social and make sure that you have them engaged in a conversation.
David Gambrill: So the upside of all of this is simply to start using social media without worrying about it. I am David Gambrill, Insurance Business TV.
