A broker in the Virgin Islands is the victim of blunt force trauma causing death, and the second insurance professional to have been murdered within the span of a week.

V.I. police on St. John island have identified the homicide victim as 60-year-old Edward H. Netherland.

Police said that, based on the autopsy report, the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

An employee of Netherland, an insurance broker based out of Tennessee, found him unresponsive in his east end home at about 9:15 a.m. Nov. 18, according to police spokeswoman Melody Rames.

Police were dispatched to Netherland's residence after the employee entered the house, found the victim and called 911.

Netherland’s murder occurred within days of 54-year-old Melissa Millan, a senior vice president with MassMutual Financial Group, being stabbed to death while jogging.

She was found by a motorist, who first believed Millan was the victim of a hit and run accident, at about 8 p.m. Nov. 20 near Simsbury, Conn.

The medical examiner said Millan had been stabbed in the chest.

A vigil for Millan - a mother of two - was held on Sunday.

The popular trail was considered safe, and the murder has sent shockwaves through the small community. Police are still unsure of what happened the night Millan was killed.

“We are trying to look at the possibilities,” Cpt. Nicholas Boutler of the Simsbury Police Department told FoxCT. “There was no bicycle, it still somehow could have been related to a motor vehicle accident or somehow be related to someone else.”

In both cases, police are still investigating and actively looking for the killers.
