One insurer has launched a campaign aimed at shaming irresponsible drivers with an app that allows you to record and upload videos of events that happened 30 seconds ago.

Allianz Malaysia Bhd is providing a platform for people to upload videos of irresponsible drivers for all to see, in conjunction with the ‘Malaysians Against Irresponsible Drivers’ (MyAID) campaign – a new initiative by the insurer to help make Malaysian roads safer.

It introduced the MyAID app, which saves videos onto the driver’s smartphone, so that they can then upload it to the MyAID channel on Youtube.

“You simple download MyAID from the Google Play store or App Store and mount your phone on your windscreen. Then activate MyAID every time you drive,” Chief executive officer Zakri Khir told The Rakyat Post. “If an incident happens to you or if you witness one, tap anywhere on your phone screen to record. After which you upload your video to our site and help bring irresponsible drivers to the nation’s attention.”

What makes the app different is that it is able to record an incident even if it has passed. A simple tap of the screen captures the past 30 seconds automatically with an option to continue recording by tapping the dedicated record button.

“This is a platform to share and allow all of us to exchange our own experiences,” said Chief executive officer of Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd Rangam Bir. “We want to create a community.”

The app can be downloaded on Google Play store or App Store and for more information, go to http://myaid.my.
