Marsh names new US, Canada president
Insurance broker and risk advisor Marsh has announced that Martin South will be its new president for the US and Canada from September 1, 2016.

South has been with the company’s Asia-Pacific region since 2013 as CEO and was previously chief executive of the firm’s Europe region and the UK & Ireland region. He has 30 years experience in the insurance industry.

He succeeds Rob Bentley who is working on strategic initiatives across Marsh & McLennan Companies’ Risk and Insurance Services (RIS) segment, which includes both Marsh and Guy Carpenter.

Former NFL player sues Lloyds over $1 million insurance claim
In what could become a test case for insurers, former NFL player Haruki Nakamura has filed a lawsuit against Lloyds of London over a rejected claim for what has been called a career-ending concussion.

Triblive.com reports that Nakamura was a Caroline Panthers defensive back until the August 2013 incident with the NFL declaring him permanently disabled. However, a doctor for Lloyds stated in 2015 that the player was exaggerating his symptoms; and that a previous concussion at college contributed to his condition. The doctor said Nakamura could return to play.

The player’s $1 million policy for professional athletes was bought by Nakamura for a premium of $17,000 per year. Lloyds does not comment on pending litigation.
