The Co-operators acquires Ontario brokerage

This is the second independent brokerage that the Co-operators has purchased since August

Co-operators General Insurance Company has announced its purchase of Browning Insurance Ltd. in Chatham, Ontario. The brokerage specializes in personal and commercial insurance policies, as well as financial services such as retirement planning and estate planning.

“We know that insurance can be seen as inconvenient for a lot of people, therefore we take pride in being able to offer all the products you might need in one office,” reads the brokerage’s website.

Similar to insurer’s acquisition of Carleton Insurance Brokers Ltd. in August, current policyholders will maintain coverage with no changes to premiums until their policies expire. After that point, they will have the option to obtain comparable policies from the Co-operators.

"We're pleased to be strengthening our presence and growing our agency distribution system in Chatham and across the country, which is part of our growth strategy," Kathy Bardswick, president and CEO of The Co-operators, said in a statement. "Our new clients will benefit from the wide range of insurance and financial products, as well as the expertise, offered by Co-operators advisors."

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
