While many analyses typically look at which sports cars and luxury vehicles are the most expensive to insure, it is perhaps more beneficial for brokers to know which have the lowest insurance premiums so they can assist clients with purchasing decisions.

For this reason, InsuranceHotline.com conducted an analysis to discover the most reasonable cars to insure in Canada, using auto quotes for the best-selling motor vehicles in six Ontario cities.

They found the least expensive to be:

  1. Hyundai Accent
  2. Volkswagen Jetta
  3. Honda Accord
  4. Ford Fusion
  5. Hyundai Elantra
  6. Mazda Mazda3
  7. Honda Civic (although discrepancies do exist between the Sedan and Coupe)
  8. Chevrolet Cruze
  9. Ford Focus
  10. Toyota Corolla

The savings even among this list are worth noting, since the difference in premiums between the Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai Accent amount to $175 per year. By comparison, the least expensive cars to insure in the USA were the Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD, the Jeep Patriot Sport 2WD and the Honda CR-V LX AWD, according to Forbes.

As far as which cars saw the most purchases nationwide, once again, Canadians voiced their love for the Honda Civic. For the 17th year running, the Civic was the best-selling car in the country, reaching a record 152,893 units in 2014 – a 5% increase from the year prior, according to Autonet.

Following the Honda Civic, Canadian consumers’ top-selling cars were the Hyundai Elantra, the Toyota Corolla and the Mazda Mazda3.
