One Ontario brokerage has almost tripled their business in the last three years, and they’re doing it without a handshake – almost.

“We’re processing 150 leads a day and we’re doing it all through the internet,” says Adam Mitchell, of Mitchell & Whale Insurance, in Whitby, Ont.. “Only about 5 per cent of our deals are from someone coming in looking for a handshake deal. We’ve killed our print advertising, and are embracing online. That’s where the future is at.”

Mitchell, who is one of the forward-lookers in this month’s Young Guns issue of Insurance Business magazine, is building on that success - and is poised to place among the Elite Top 30 brokers in Canada.

And he is making it happen online.

“We’re a small office; but it works,” Mitchell told Insurance Business. “Our hours are 8-6 weekdays and 10-5 on Saturdays. Your best customer is a busy professional, so you have to be available to fit into their busy schedule.”

One of the more popular tools that Mitchell uses on the website is the ‘Chat Box.’

“The Chat Boxes work great; I believe they are driving much of the business,” he says. “They are interactive and can accommodate today’s consumer.”

Still looking to do more, Mitchell already sees the next step for the brokerage online.

“We’re just now looking at Tag marketing, that is the next level for us,” he says.

Tags are tiny bits of website code that can help provide useful insights – so long as they are used judiciously, as they can also make sites slow and clunky if used to excess. Tags are especially useful in facilitating mobile marketing.

“Being able to target our products to where the consumer’s interests are, through online tracking tools and tags, are where we are headed,” says Mitchell.

Haven't thrown in your hat to see if you are among the Top 30 Brokers in Canada? Your time is running out, as the survey closes Sunday.
