Conflicting reports are coming out of Ottawa, as police in the nation's capital say that they are investigating multiple shootings.

According to the Globe and Mail, Ottawa police say they are investigating three shootings, one at the War Memorial, one on Parliament Hill and one near the Rideau Centre.

A statement from a Conservative MP that a shooter had been shot and killed by police has not been confirmed by authorities.

Delegates at the IBAO conference downtown have begun tweeting photos of a city in lockdown.

Two sources told The Canadian Press that Kevin Vickers, the sergeant-at-arms for the House of Commons, shot an assailant. Other MPs also tweeted that a gunman was shot and killed, but police also have not verified those reports.

RCMP are urging people in Ottawa not to head downtown, and for those in tall buildings around the downtown core to avoid windows and stay inside.

Parliament Hill staff were issued a security warning to stay away from doors and windows, lock their doors and, if doors would not lock, to barricade them.
