Today’s leading companies understand the importance of mobile systems based on web usage expanding at an unprecedented pace, and thus leaving brokers with an ideal opportunity to expand their business.

According to The Nielsen Company, in 2013 40 per cent of insurance research time was spent on mobile devices and 25 per cent of consumers used mobile devices exclusively in their research. Investis found 20 per cent of all visits to corporate websites now come from mobile devices, but less than a quarter of the companies they surveyed provided a mobile website. Finally, a Google study revealed 61 per cent of consumers said they would quickly move on to another site if they could not find what they were looking for right away on a mobile site.

Cornerstone Insurance Brokers Ltd, an insurance provider serving Toronto and the surrounding area, has become the latest company to announce they’ve made their website mobile device friendly. The upgrade aims to enhance access for their clients across the community, and ensure their site is able to be easily navigated using a range of devices.

A company press release explained, “Savvy consumers are now increasingly using tablets and smart phones to find the products and services. At the touch of a button, they’re now able to find exactly what they require, the moment they need it.”

The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) put out a white paper detailing best practices for mobile design.

For example, companies need to consider why consumers will be using their mobile service and tailor the mobile content to their specific needs.Navigation simplicity, steering clear of excessive design and use of imagery, as well as information clarity are key considerations.

“Getting your mobile site built doesn’t have to be difficult. We used a third-party service to build ours and there’s a ton of them out there. Just google something like ‘make my website mobile’ and you’ll find a whole bunch of options,” said Cory Young, COO of Rhodes & Williams.
