Insurance Business Canada recently unveiled its Top 50 Rising Stars of 2023, spotlighting emerging talents in the insurance sector. Among those who clinched a spot on the list is Connor Chow, national manager of construction projects and solutions at Western Surety Company.

Chow’s work involves collaboration with major contractors and frequent visits to construction sites, where he plays a significant role in project management and problem resolution.

His background in construction and design has been instrumental in accomplishing these tasks, particularly when addressing complex commercial construction issues.

“I’ve built many relationships across the country with contractors and owners, helping them get their projects back on track,” Chow told IBC.

“That contributes to the bigger picture as a surety company, in that we always want to contribute to the positive industry image of surety and that surety bonds are the best protection for contractors.”

Since entering the industry in 2017, Chow has been named a board member of the Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs and lead auditor for Technology Accreditation Canada. He holds several professional qualifications, including MArch, MRAIC, BCM, P. GSC, AScT, PMP, and LEED AP BD+C. He is also one of only nine people in Canada to have earned professional Gold Seal-certified status.

Additionally, Chow has been praised for his proficiency in analysing extensive information, communicating key details, and offering technical solutions. These skills have helped him stand out as an important contributor in construction roles, especially as the sector faces challenges such as high interest rates, complex supply chains, and labour shortages.

Looking ahead, Chow said he wants to continue contributing significantly to the industry by taking on problem-solving and construction roles.

“The market right now needs builders, dreamers and doers; we need people that are going to start solving problems,” he said.
